Focus On... Scampston

Each month we choose one topic of our business to Focus On.

This month it's Scampston Park - a new Outdoor Events Venue for Yorkshire...

Located just outside Malton, in North Yorkshire, the House at Scampston dates back to 1690.

Its 75 acres of parkland was redesigned in 1782 by the renowned landscaper Lancelot ’Capability’ Brown and includes a series of lakes, a Palladian bridge and many fine examples of native trees.

In 2000 the House was awarded 'House of the Year' accolade by Country Life Magazine and in 2004 the Walled Garden, designed by Chelsea Gold winner Piet Oudolf, was opened to the public.

This was soon followed by the opening of a new restaurant in the garden, The Star at Scampston, which was mentioned in the 2007 edition of the Good Food Guide.

Outdoor Events Venue

The evolution of Scampston now continues in 2008 with the fabulous open park land area being promoted as a new Outdoor Events Venue.

In recent years the Malton Agricultural Show has been held at Scampston and the event is going from strength to strength. The free draining site means that they never have problems moving heavy machinery on and off the site.

Exceptionally wet conditions in the summer of 2007 meant that many events had to cancel as sites were waterlogged. Event organisers lost thousands of pounds when their events had to be cancelled at the last minute due to problems with access and fears over health and safety.
