Murkey Hill Farm is a set of traditional farm buildings on the Middleton Tyas Estate that date from around the mid-19th Century and certainly it is considered that they were greatly enlarged in the 1890s They became redundant in the late 1980s and have sat empty looking for a new "raison d'etre" since this time.
Landteam Partnership purchased the Middleton Tyas Estate in March, 2003 and obtained planning for this project during 2005. Works commenced on the 15th September 2006 to produce some 5,500 SqFft of commercial offices together with a new administration centre for the Estate and it's shooting activities. TheĀ buildings include stores, a modern game larder, shoot beaters' room and a two bedroomed cottage.
The cottage and some of the offices have original roof trusses which stands as a reminder of the buildings' heritage. The buildings are mentioned within the Richmondshire Book of Architecture as having a "Jacobs Ladder" in the stable and in recognition of this, a new "Jacobs Ladder" has been created in the development to access the pigeon loft, which is to be re-stocked.
Murky Hill Farm is a superb development and a fine example of how English architecture, once again, can provide a pleasing and practical role in our everyday lives.
